Spanish abstract | El síndrome de fibrodisplasia osificante progresiva (FOP) es una enfermedad muy rara del tejido conectivo, clínicamente caracterizada por osificación progresiva de tejidos blandos y habitualmente con malformación del primer ortejo (dedo de los pies). Material y métodos: se revisaron clínica, radiológica y tomográficamente a tres pacientes con diagnóstico de FOP durante el año de 2006. Resultados: Tres pacientes del sexo femenino de 4, 6 y 12 años de edad con deformidad a nivel del primer dedo de pies y presencia de tumoraciones induradas a nivel de tronco, cuello y hombros. Conclusión: La FOP es una enfermedad genética autosómica dominante, rara, que se manifiesta por osificación de tejidos blandos, la cual limita progresivamente la movilidad de las articulaciones y del tronco |
English abstract | Fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva (FOP) syndrome is a very rare connective tissue disease characterized clinically by the progressive ossifi cation of the soft tissues, usually with hallux malformation. Material and methods:Three patients diagnosed with FOP during 2006 were clinically, radiographically and tomographically assessed. Results: Three female patients ages 4, 6 and 12 years old with hallux deformity and indurated tumors of the trunk, neck and shoulders. Conclusion: FOP is a rare autosomal dominant genetic disease that manifests itself with ossifi cation of the soft tissues, which progressively limits joint and trunk mobility |
