| Spanish abstract | En el presente artículo se busca, mediante un análisis del estado actual del tema, comprender los alcances que la ambliopía tiene en el desarrollo integral del individuo, pero con un enfoque mayormente dirigido hacia el lenguaje y la integración audiovisual de este. Se intenta dar a conocer los últimos avances sobre dicho tema y ponerlos al alcance del profesional en optometría, quien a ciencia cierta es el primero en poder intervenir a esta población y también, muchas veces, el último que puede ofrecer soluciones rehabilitativas. Este tema es importante para el optómetra, entre otras razones, porque conocer el comportamiento de la ambliopía y sus efectos en otras cualidades de la cognición humana ayudará a comprender mejor tal fenómeno, lo cual permitirá mayor efectividad en su abordaje terapéutico |
| English abstract | This article seeks to understand, through an analysis of the current state of the topic, the importance of amblyopia in the comprehensive development of the individual, but with a major focus on language and its audiovisual integration. It attempts to explain the latest developments on the subject and to make them available to professionals in optometry, who for sure are the first to intervene in affected population and also, often, the last to provide rehabilitative solutions. This issue is important to optometry because, among other reasons, knowledge on the behavior of am-blyopia and its effects on other qualities of human cognition can help to better understand this phenomenon, which will allow a more effective therapeutic approach |
