| Spanish abstract | Este texto es un profundo homenaje al maestro y amigo, Manuel Barquín, fallecido el 8 de julio de 2008. Se destaca su gran entusiasmo y sentido práctico para promover, organizar y llevar a la práctica sus grandes obras, entre ellos: el Hospital General, el Centro Médico “La Raza” del IMSS; la Asociación Autónoma del Personal Académico AAPAUNAM. El Dr. Barquín es autor de obras de su especialidad sobre Dirección de Hospitales, y de un libro de texto de Historia de la Medicina. Vale la pena mencionar su artículo “Óptimo Médico” que es revelador de su sentido humanístico. Semanas antes de su muerte, asistió de pie firme al homenaje que le rindió la Facultad de Medicina a iniciativa del Dr. José Narro Robles. Fueron los suyos 86 años de edad de vida intensa y combativa contra todo lo que fuera injusticia, ignorancia, perversidad, y aun una agresión patológica en su propio organismo por largo tiempo, situación que conocemos por datos indirectos, ya que él nunca se quejó de la afección que lastimara su vida |
| English abstract | This text pays homage to a teacher and friend, Manuel Barquín, who passed away on July 8 2008. Dr. Barquín stood out for the great enthusiasm and practical sense with which he promoted, organized and brought to fruition his grand works, including: the General Hospital, the “La Raza” Medical Center (IMSS), and the Autonomous Association of Academic Personnel (AAPAUNAM). Dr. Barquín wrote texts on his area of specialization, which was hospital administration, and a textbook on the history of medicine. Also worthy of mention is his article “Óptimo Médico” because it reveals his humanist spirit. Just weeks before his death, he attended an event organized by the Faculty of Medicine on the initiative of Dr. José Narro Robles that recognized his life’s work. During 86 years of intense living he battled against injustice, ignorance, perversity, and even the pathological aggression that affected his own body for so long; a situation we were of aware only through indirect indications, as he never complained of the ailment that afflicted him |
