| English abstract | This article proposes an understanding of the Chilean student movement on the basis of two converging elements: a structural analysis of the effects of the implementation of the neoliberal system and its consequences on the class structure, and an analysis of the legitimacy achieved by the movement. Thus, one of the key findings is that the Chilean student movement did not advocate sectoral demands, but questioned the character of the state as a whole. Despite its failure to achieve changes in the education policy, the student movement paved the way for Chileans to be able to imagine a different form of democracy |
| Portuguese abstract | Este artículo propone una comprensión del movimiento estudiantil chileno a partir de dos elementos convergentes: un análisis estructural de los efectos de la implantación del sistema neoliberal y sus consecuencias en la estructura de clases, y un análisis de la legitimidad alcanzada por el movimiento. De esta manera, uno de los resultados fundamentales es que el movimiento estudiantil chileno no abogó por reivindicaciones sectoriales, sino que cuestionó el carácter del Estado en su conjunto. A pesar de no lograr cambios en política educacional, el movimiento estudiantil abrió las puertas para que los chilenos pudieran imaginar una democracia distinta |
