| Spanish abstract | Clemencia (1869) presenta un desenlace trágico con la muerte del protagonista, Fernando valle el héroe de la novela, militar, moreno y patriota. Si se considera la novela desde la perspectiva de la construcción del e stado- nación ( d oris Sommer) esto resulta problemático pues no se explica el porqué se mata al ciudadano ejemplar. Una posible interpretación surge cuando v alle es considerado como una víctima sacrificial (René Girard). e l marco histórico de la novela es un momento de crisis en la historia mexicana; un momento en el cual las distinciones entre traidor y héroe se vuelven borrosas. l a muerte de v alle, analizada desde la perspectiva del sacrificio girardiano, es un acto que restablece el orden en la comunidad y contiene la violencia descontrolada |
| English abstract | Clemencia (1869) presents a tragic resolution with the death of Fernando v alle, the novel’s hero, depicted as patriotic, military, and moreno . The ending is problematic when considering the novel in terms of a narrative that constructs the nation-state ( d oris Sommer) because there is no explanation for tragic demise of its exemplary citizen. A possible interpretation arises when v alle is considered a sacrificial victim (René Girard). The historical setting for the novel is a moment of crisis in m exican history, a moment in which the dis - tinctions between traitor and hero become unclear. v alle’s death, analyzed from the perspective of Girardian sacrifice, is an act that reestablishes order in the community and contains the previously uncontained violence |
