| English abstract | Considering the review “Crisis of the novel” by Walter Benjamin, we intend to highlight the theme of epic narrative, which emerges in the world of literature at the beginning of the 20th century, as a contrast to the traditional novel. In this context, we aim to discuss Alfred Döblin’s theory of the construction of the epic work, the montage as a technical resource used in Berlin Alexanderplatz, which overcome the review, revealing itself as a concept of great importance for Benjamin. The political and pedagogical pretension of art is analyzed in contrast to other examples of the period |
| Portuguese abstract | Ao considerar a resenha “Crise do romance” de Walter Benjamin, enfocamos o tema da narratividade épica que surge nos meios literários do início do século XX em contraposição ao romance tradicional. Nesse contexto, discutiremos a teoria da construção épica de Alfred Döblin, a montagem como recurso utilizado em Berlin Alexanderplatz, cujo signifi cado ultrapassa a resenha e demonstra ser de grande importância para Benjamin.
