| Resumen en inglés | This article analyses part of the genre relations in the Tenetehara society, focusing especially on the woman’s role. The analysis is based on the myths, fundamental to understanding the society as a whole. The first part shows the “handing over of plants”, by the cultural heroes, being related to the woman as the one who gives life. The second part analyses the woman in the “extended family” and the social relations resulting from the types of marriage amongst the Tenetehara. The third and last part, focuses on the woman as a “trickster”, that is, the one through whom nature recreates itself, the mediator in the relationship man v. nature in the Tenetehara world |
| Resumen en portugués | O presente artigo analisa parte das relações de gênero na sociedade Tenetehara, enfocando especificamente o papel da mulher. A análise se sustenta nos mitos, fundamentais para entender a sociedade no seu conjunto. A primeira parte evidencia a “entrega das plantas”, por parte dos heróis culturais, como relacionada à mulher, aquela que dá a vida. A segunda analisa a mulher na “família extensa” e as relações sociais advindas a partir dos tipos de casamentos realizados entre os Tenetehara. A terceira, e última, enfoca a mulher como “trickster”, isto é, aquela através da qual a natureza se recria, a reequilibradora das relações homem x natureza no mundo tenetehara |
