| Resumen en español | A comienzos de los años cincuenta los trabajadores rurales uruguayos presentaban serias dificultades para expresar sus necesidades y demandas colectivas. No obstante, al promediar esa misma década, el Partido Comunista y el Partido Socialista definieron brindar una mayor atención a los problemas agrarios del país. Dos modificaciones fueron sustanciales en este contexto: por un lado, el apoyo para el surgimiento de organizaciones sindicales de los trabajadores rurales y, por otro lado, brindar mayor espacio a la exposición de las condiciones de vida de estos asalariados en las páginas de sus medios de prensa escrita. Este artículo tiene como objetivo exponer ese proceso de acercamiento entre la izquierda y los trabajadores rurales que generaron experiencias sindicales relevantes en tambos, arrozales y remolacheras. | Resumen en inglés | At the beginning of the 1950s, Uruguayan rural workers presented serious difficulties in expressing their collective needs and demands. However, by the middle of the same decade, the Communist Party and the Socialist Party decided to give greater attention to the country’s agrarian problems. Two modifications were substantial in this context: on the one hand, the support for the emergence of union organizations of rural workers and, on the other hand, to give more space to the exhibition of the living conditions of these employees in the pages of their media of the written press. This article aims to expose this process of rapprochement between the left and rural workers that generated relevant union experiences in dairy farms, rice fields and beets. For this, the article is supported by various sources of information: daily sessions of the Parliament; publications in the press linked to the Communist Party and the Socialist Party; and finally, interviews with militants |
