| Resumen en inglés | The second lecture, The Religion of the Future, examines the co ntent of the transformed religion, in its secular register. My central theme throughout is the need and the potential for a revolution in our religious beliefs. Two obstacles make it difficult to think about religion. The first obstacle is the taboo agains t the religious criticism of religion. The origins of this taboo lie in the privatization of religion and the overcoming of the religious wars of the early modern period. The second obstacle to overcome is the sentimental attitude to religion. In practice, the sentimental attitude to religion serves an institutionally conservative social democracy. It is window dressing: a metaphysical upgrade of the same moral prejudices habitually embraced by the prevailing secular humanism |
| Resumen en portugués | A segunda palestra, A Religião do Futuro, examina o conteúdo da religião transformada, em seu registro secular. O tema central é a necessidade e o potencial para uma revolução na n ossa crença religiosa. Dois obstáculos dificultam pensar sobre a religião. O primeiro deles é o tabu contra a crítica religiosa da religião. As origens deste tabu encontram - se na privatização da religião e no fim das guerras religiosas do início do período moderno. O segundo obstáculo a ser superado é a atitude sentimental em relação à religião. Na prática, a atitude sentimental em relação à religião é útil para uma democracia social institucionalmente conservadora.
