| Resumen en español | El tamiz visual es la aplicación de una prueba sencilla, reproducible, válida, sensible y específica que permite identificar alguna alteración ocular en la infancia que a simple vista puede no ser evidente y que es susceptible de ocasionar algún problema visual o sistémico. En México existe el sustento legal para su aplicación que indica cuándo y a quién se le debe realizar; sin embargo, no se especifica una técnica estandarizada. En este trabajo se describen los resultados preliminares de un modelo de programa de tamizaje visual que permite estimar la utilidad e impacto de un tamiz realizado oportunamente, puesto que de 50 bebés tamizados, se identificaron 10 (20%) con alteraciones oculares susceptibles de ser corregidas a tiempo, pero que ponían en riesgo la visión ocasionando discapacidad permanente, lo que implica no sólo padecer la enfermedad, sino que afecta negativamente a la familia, a la comunidad y al país |
| Resumen en inglés | The visual screening is the application of a simple, duplicable, valid, sensitive and specific test that allows identifying an ocular alteration that may not be evident at first glance during childhood and that is likely to cause visual or a systemic problem. In Mexico there is a legal basis to know when and who should go under this procedure, yet there is nothing to standardize the technique to be used. This paper describes the preliminary results of a visual screening model that allows to consider the usefulness and impact of an early visual screening since out of 50 screening babies, ten (20%) were found to carry visual problems that could be susceptible to correct in time but that puts vision at serious risk, causing permanent impairment, which implies not only suffering from the disease, but also negatively affects the family, the community and the country |
