Resumen en inglés Objectives: To determine the prevalence of periodontal disease in primiparous women in Celaya, Guanajuato. Material and methods: Descriptive and transversal study, included women with a first pregnancy of less than 20 weeks of gestation who agreed to participate in the study; they were attended at the Urban Health Center in Celaya, which is part of the Ministry of Health in the State of Guanajuato. All subjects underwent dental examination to determine if they had any periodontal diseases. It was measured the probing depth (PD) and level of clinical attachment loss (CAL) using a periodontal probe UNC-15. Periodontal disease was defined as mild periodontal disease with at least 1 site with PD > 3 mm and CAL > 2 mm, as well as severe periodontal disease with at least 4 sites with PD > 5 mm and at least 4 sites with CAL > 2 mm.
