| Resumen en español | La presente investigación tiene como objetivo principal exponer nueva información sobre los hechos que ocurrieron entre los años 1713 y 1763 en la región del Golfo de Honduras. Un área integral del Mar Caribe que hasta la centuria decimoctava quedó en las márgenes del imperio español. Sin embargo, con la gran demanda de las maderas tintóreas por la industria textil europea comenzó la extracción de dicho material de la zona, sobre todo por los británicos, quienes además de corte de madera se ocupaban de introducir mercancía de contrabando. Estos acontecimientos obligaron a la Corona española a tomar medidas para defender su soberanía territorial, comercial y naval en la región, provocando continuas fricciones con los británicos durante el siglo XVIII |
| Resumen en inglés | The main objective of this research is present new information about the historical events that took place between 1713 and 1763 in the region of the Gulf of Honduras, an integral area of the Caribbean Sea that until the eighteenth century was of secondary importance to the Spanish Empire. This situation changed with the European textile industry's high demand of logwood, British inroads in logging this material, and their contraband trade with the Spaniards. The new dynamic forced the Spanish Crown to take measures to defend their territorial, commercial and naval domination in the region, causing a constant friction between both nations that played out in the 18th century |
