Resumen en inglés | The utilization of biomarkers is an option to help agricultural producers cope with climate variations. The objective of this study is to determine the use of climate biomarkers in agricultural production systems in the State of Anzoategui. One hundred farms were surveyed, distributed randomly in 11 municipalities. The variables studied were: experience of the producer (EP), residence of the producer (RP), legal land regime (RL), type of operation (TIE), farm size (TE) and the ability to associate in community organizations (SO). Principal component analysis (PCA) was used for data interpretation, using the type of biomarker as classification criteria. The cabañuelas (traditional, annual weather forecasts based on the first days of the year), the Tijereta bird (Tyrannus savana), the cicada (Tettigades chilensis) and the moon phase were identified as climate biomarkers. Of the total variance, 85.2% was explained by two principal components. The first result was composed of EP (71.3%) and OS (94.6%). The EP, SO,TEandRLdetermined the type of biomarkers, mainly using themoonphases (18.0%).TE and RL mostly give a sense of ownership and the maintenance of local and ancestral knowledge. Rescue of this local knowledge may be considered in management plans for communal agricultural risk |
