| Resumen en inglés | This research analyzed the perceptions of the natives of Valledupar towards the term vallenato used as demonym. To this end, an attempt was made to determine how the perceptions of speakers shape their linguistic attitudes, as well as the social variables that influence the attitudes of the speaking community. The selection of the sample was based on the parameters of PRESEEA (2003). The results indicate that the main belief of the speakers about the term vallenato is related to the folkloric and musical aspect characteristic of the city of Valledupar (Colombia). |
| Resumen en español | Esta investigación analizó las percepciones de los oriundos de Valledupar hacia el término vallenato empleado como gentilicio. Para ello, se intentó determinar cómo las percepciones de los hablantes configuran sus actitudes lingüísticas, así como las variables sociales que influyen en las actitudes de la comunidad de habla. La selección de la muestra se sustentó en los parámetros del Proyecto para el Estudio Sociolingüístico del Español de España y América-PRESEEA (2003). Los resultados indican que la creencia principal de los hablantes sobre el término vallenato está relacionada con el aspecto folclórico y musical característico de la ciudad de Valledupar (Colombia). |
