| Resumen en español | Lévinas es uno de los más importantes pensadores del siglo XX, y tal vez sea el filósofo que más en serio se haya tomado el intento de pensar la diferencia, encontrándose allí con los límites mismos del lenguaje, con la dificultad que en éste se encuentra para pensar lo otro, la diferencia, por fuera del concepto que cierra el universo de sentido en una totalidad. Lévinas centra su pensamiento ético en la figura del otro, y es supremamente cuidadoso, y tal vez la totalidad (siempre abierta) de su obra no sea más que el intento por dar ese rodeo para sortear la imposibilidad con la que se topa, en afirmar el lugar de ese otro, no como lo otro de mí, sino lo otro en tanto otro. El recorrido del presente ensayo se interesa en el intento por comprender ese otro radical preservando su afuera, su “más allá”, sin encerrarlo en las fronteras totalizantes del concepto |
| Resumen en inglés | Lévinas is one of the most important thinkers of the 20th century and, perhaps, the philosopher who has attempted to think of difference most seriously. In this effort, he encountered the limits of language itself, as well as the difficulties it poses for thinking the other, difference, outside the concept which encloses the universe of sense in a totality. Lévinas centers his ethical ideas on the figure of the other and is extremely cautious; perhaps the (permanently open) totality of his work is no more than the effort to circumvent the impossibility he faces when affirming the other not as the other than myself, but as the other qua other. The purpose of this essay is to try to comprehend that radical other, preserving its outside, its “beyond”, without enclosing it within the totalizing frontiers of the concept |
