| Resumen en español | A partir de un análisis de La pérdida de El Dorado la autora pretende mostrar cómo V. S. Naipaul, polémico escritor a causa de algunas de sus obras, relató el dispositivo colonial de su isla natal, Trinidad, en la frontera entre literatura e investigación historiográfica, basándose en una gran cantidad de documentos de archivo. En esta Trinidad que emerge de los archivos, en la cual sucedieron hechos no solamente crueles o indecibles, sino irreproducibles en la voz de los colonizadores, los grandes ausentes son tanto los colonizados, como los indígenas y los esclavos. Su presencia es sólo la de la muerte. La voz y las palabras del indígena no se escuchan, no se traducen. Sin embargo, el colonizado, el subalterno, sí habla: habla a través del cuerpo torturado, latigueado, descuartizado e hinchado de veneno, y que es el único instrumento posible para contar su historia |
| Resumen en inglés | Through an analysis of The loss of El Dorado, the author intends to show how V. S. Naipaul (a writer in some ways very controversial) narrated the colonial device in his native island, Trinidad, on the border between literature and historiographical research, relying on a large amount of archival documents. In this Trinidad that emerges from archives, where events occurred that were not simply cruel or unspeakable, but irreproducible in the voice of the colonizers, the colonized, the natives and then the slaves, are the great absentees. Their presence is only that of death. The voice and the words of the indigenous, of his words are not heard or translated. Yet the colonized, the subaltern, speaks: he speaks through the body that, tortured, whipped, quartered, swollen with poison, becomes for him the only possible instrument to tell his story |
