Resumen en inglés | The main goal of this work is present an overoview of the hypothesis on the genesis of nelsonites, to show the most common uses of titanium and to visualize exploration perspectives, particularly for Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas area. Nelsonites are rocks composed of Fe-Ti oxides and are associated to anorthosite complexes. Tha main hypotheses on the formation of Fe-Ti oxide ores are: liquid inmiscibility and 2) fractional crystallization. There is so called AMCG (Anorthosite, Mangerite- Charnockite-Granite) suite, wich in turn is associated to the anorthosite complexes. One outstandind complex in the basement of the Sierra Madre Oriental is the precambrian Novillo Gneiss. This complex has been divided into two units: 1) potassic granulites and 2) an AMCG suite, the latter is the country rock for the nelsonites; two principal markets exist for titanium: 1) pigment manufacturing (paints, paper and plastics), and 2) titanium metal (jet emgines and aerospece applications) currently a mineralogical, geochemical and geochronological investigation has been carried out on Nelsonites from Cd. Victoria area, Perspectives for future prospection are not hopeful at all because of scarce and small outcrops of nelsonites. However the underground extent is unknown |
