Resumen en inglés | The objective of this article is to analyse the impact of genetically modified organisms in developing countries through the case study on Bt cotton. Focusing first on the strategies developed by Monsanto, world agbiotech leader, it shows that the mode of entry and mode of diffusion of the innovation can vary greatly as a function of the socio-economic and institutional framework facilitating the utilization of agricultural biotechnology. Even though in the short run, agricultural biotechnology is likely to increase the agricultural productivity in developing countries, it does not necessarily guarantee sustainable development of their agricultural sector |
