Resumen en inglés | Silver mining was one of the most important economic activities of the New Spain period. The work explores, from the historical perspective, the transformations that the taxation suffered to the exploitation and minting of metals. The axes of analysis revolve around two prerogatives that the Spanish crown had to exercise taxation: that of direct domain and that of fiscal power. We consider that the use of these axes allows to show more clearly the qualitative weight of the tax burden linked to metals, essentially to the exploitation and minting of silver. Thus, he realizes the changes and continuities in taxes during the Hispanic domain and after the independence of Mexico. In that sense, the text shows the reformulation of one of the most important, the collection of the fifth. The study of this tax figure serves to understand the conditions and the scenario under which the process of transition, construction and delimitation of the fiscal powers of the Mexican State took place. Although the latter is not delved into, the conclusions allow to establish an analytical horizon of the subject with the sights set on the 19th century |
