Resumen en inglés | The physical activity can certainly be considered a healthful behavior, besides being seen as an important component in the prophylaxis of risk of cardiovascular illnesses. The objective of this study was to analyze associations between indicators of physical activity and health related physical aptitude in adolescents. Sample was constituted by 350 citizens (205 girls and 145 boys) with ages between 14 and 18 years. Information related to the daily physical activities was acquired by means of retrospective memory instrument. Estimates on what the energy demand of the activities carried through during the day was (DEtotal), time spent in physical activities of low intensity (AFBA) and moderate-to-vigorous intensities (AFMV). Rest time in bed and activities in seated position as indicators of physical inactivity (INAF). Physical fitness related to health was observed based on four components. Cardiorespiratory capacity via estimates of maximum consumption of oxygen (VO2max) through a 12-min race test conducted in a court. Strength/muscular endurance and flexibility with the motor tests of sit-ups and “sit-and-reach”. Corporal fat through the corporal mass index, together with thicknesses of the triceps and subscapular skinfolds and fat percentile. Results from the descriptive statistics, t-test and correlation for data analysis were used. Results indicated low association among AFMV, DEtotal and VO2max for both genders. Data from physical activity presented no significant associations with strength/muscular resistance, flexibility and corporal fat. In conclusion, being a habitually active adolescent does not guarantee better physical fitness indexes. There are also other factors, besides regular exercising, that could be responsible for the improvement or even maintenance of the components for physical aptitude |
Resumen en portugués | Existem outros fatores, que não apenas a prática de atividade física regular, que seriam responsáveis pela melhoria, ou mesmo manutenção, dos componentes da aptidão física |
