| Resumen en inglés | One of the most common consequences of right cerebrovascular accident is the hemispatial neglect, described as a limitation in the ability to direct, answer, or orient before stimuli presented in the opposite side of the brain injury, often revealed through varied sensorial systems such as the visual, somatosensory, and auditory. It is diagnosed when this decreased ability cannot be assigned to either sensitive or motor defi cits. Diagnostic when this motor or sensitive diminished ability cannot be attributed defi cit. In order to diagnose such dysfunction, it is necessary to apply specifi c neurophysiologic tests. This study is a report on the application of the hemispatial neglect neurophysiologic tests in a patient with left hemiplegia after a 10-yr cerebrovascular accident, and the description of the clinical characteristics of the syndrome. Data were collected by observing the patient´s responses to the tests. Hemispatial neglect was identifi ed for the patient as it presented certain incapacity to respond to either events or stimuli on the opposite side of the brain injury. Hemispatial neglect results in changes of posture such as the postural asymmetry not favoring the rehabilitation process |
| Resumen en portugués | Uma das conseqüências comuns resultantes do acidente vascular encefálico do hemisfério direito é a heminegligência, descrita como uma limitação na habilidade de direcionar, responder ou orientar-se frente a estímulos apresentados no lado oposto à lesão cerebral, freqüentemente manifestada através de sistemas sensoriais variados, incluindo os sistemas visual, somatosensorial e auditivo. É diagnosticada quando esta habilidade diminuída não pode ser atribuída a déficits motores ou sensitivos. Para se diagnosticar tal disfunção é necessário que se apliquem testes neuropsicológicos específicos. O estudo será o relato de caso da aplicação dos testes neuropsicológicos de heminegligência, em uma paciente hemiplégica à esquerda, após um acidente vascular encefálico há dez anos e a descrição de características clínicas da síndrome. Os dados foram coletados a partir da observação das respostas da paciente na aplicação dos testes. Foi identificada a presença de heminegligência na paciente em questão, pois esta apresentou certa incapacidade para responder a eventos ou estímulos do lado oposto à lesão cerebral. A heminegligência acarreta alterações de postura como a assimetria postural, prejudicando o processo de reabilitação |
