| Resumen en inglés | ABSTRACT: The rehabilitation of the knee has undergone several transformations in recent years. The goals will depend basically the needs of each patient, which will be dictated by the degree of injury or the objectives and expectations of this individual regarding its future activity. Reliable studies are essential so that interventions are carried out and planned properly thus collaborating for best results. The objective of this work is to define the effectiveness of physiotherapy in the first week of the postoperative period in the functionality and pain of individuals with damage in the knee. Ten patients, both genders, with the knee injury, in the first week of the postoperative period, assisted at the HU/UEL Ambulatory of Physiotherapy after undergoing surgical procedure, were selected. They were evaluated before the first session and after 10 sessions through the questionnaire Lysholm and pain parameter of questionnaire SF36 in order to analyze the pain and functionality of the lower limbs. Variables were analyzed by the program SPSS 13.0 through tests of T Student and Shapiro Wilk. The physical therapy was considered effective in the treatment of pain (p = 0.0362) and functionality (p = 0.0093) of the lower limb after the 10 first sessions. Based on these data, it appears that physiotherapy is effective in the treatment of post-operative knee injury as it presented considerable improvement in pain and function of the lower limbs, even after limited number of sessions and patients. More studies are needed to determine the real effect of physiotherapy after complete treatment and establish what are the best resources to be used |
| Resumen en portugués | RESUMO: A reabilitação do joelho sofreu várias transformações nos últimos anos. As metas da reabilitação dependerão das necessidades de cada paciente, e serão ditadas pelo grau da lesão ou objetivos e expectativas do indivíduo quanto à sua atividade futura. Estudos confiáveis são indispensáveis para que as intervenções sejam realizadas de forma adequada e planejada, colaborando para melhores resultados. O objetivo deste trabalho foi definir a eficácia da fisioterapia na primeira semana do período pós-operatório na funcionalidade e dor de indivíduos com lesão no joelho. Foram selecionados 10 pacientes, de ambos os gêneros, com lesão no joelho, na primeira semana após o procedimento cirúrgico, encaminhados ao Ambulatório de Fisioterapia do HU/UEL. Estes pacientes foram avaliados antes da primeira sessão e após 10 sessões, por meio do questionário de Lysholm e do parâmetro dor do questionário SF-36. As variáveis foram analisadas pelo programa SPSS® 13.0, com os testes Shapiro Wilk e T de Student. A fisioterapia foi considerada efetiva para o tratamento da dor (p=0,03) e da funcionalidade (p=0,00), após as 10 primeiras sessões de tratamento. Conclui-se que a fisioterapia iniciada na primeira semana após a cirurgia foi eficaz no tratamento das lesões do joelho, pois apresentou melhora significativa na dor e funcionalidade dos membros inferiores, mesmo com número reduzido de sessões. Mais estudos são necessários para determinar o real efeito da fisioterapia após tratamento completo e estabelecer quais são os melhores recursos a serem utilizados |
