| Resumen en inglés | The present essay discusses the historiographical perceptions of FernandBraudel regarding three civilizational sets: the Mediterranean, the Africa, andthe Atlantic. We may define Professor Braudel’s lessons through his experiencewith history teaching and historical research, primarily, in Argelia, then, inFrance and Brazil. When he returned from his homeland continent, Europe, tofinish writing his doctorate thesis – concluded just after the end of the SecondWorld War and the beginning of decolonizing process in the African and Asiancontinents – Professor Braudel became the exponent of a structuralistic andhistorical culture in the subsequent decades. From this, we can comprehendhis historiographical undertakings beyond his greatest passion, theMediterranean, as well as, systematize his important contributions to the studyof the Atlantic world and, specially, to the study of the black Africa |
| Resumen en portugués | O presente ensaio discute as percepções historiográficas de Fernand Braudel arespeito de três conjuntos civilizacionais: o Mediterrâneo, o Atlântico e a Áfri-ca. Definem-se as lições do professor Braudel a partir de sua experiência como ensino de História e a pesquisa histórica primeiramente na Argélia, depois naFrança e no Brasil. Ao retornar ao seu continente originário, a Europa, paraterminar de escrever sua tese de doutoramento, concluída logo após o fim daSegunda Guerra Mundial e o início do processo de descolonização dos conti-nentes asiático e africano, o professor Braudel torna-se expoente de uma cul-tura histórica estruturalista nas décadas seguintes. A partir dela, podem-se com-preender suas investidas historiográficas para além de sua paixão maior, oMediterrâneo, e sistematizar suas importantes contribuições ao estudo do mundoAtlântico e, especialmente, da África negra |
