Resumen en inglés Public policies according to the legal journal of the Latin University of America are called as "set of governmental activities aimed at establishing a welfare population by means of agreements between the State and society, in order to give response to needs that affect the community"(1). It analyzes the profile of professional nursing which has great capacity of leadership and management, as compelling to put you in politics, being primary carriers of development strategies and public health projects; According to article 17 of the 1996 Act 266 expresses exercise and professional nursing skills enabling them to organize, direct, and regulate the provision of health services, also establish policies, exercise control and surveillance in the provision of them and the development of occupational health entities.This document review focuses on identifying the involvement of professional nursing in the elaboration of public policies, compare participation among Colombia and Latin America, this way to analyze the role of the nurse and the importance of the participation active professional in the design of policies, through which not only meet the diverse needs of a community, but it also allows a social recognition to the professional.The results are evident that Brazil is greater contribution in research and political participation, with a 78% and followed by Colombia with 22%. In many of the articles, highlight the low participation of nurses in the political area and few bases provided in the Academy. In conclusion with this the Brazilian nursing has great participation in the political field, however in terms of Latin America in general nurses are not recognized as active political beings, highlight its greater focus is in the care area and since the Academy does not promote the profile and the political participation of nursing
