| Resumen en español | La rentabilidad de la educación, en términos de ingresos, es un tema que ha sido ampliamente estudiado por la academia, pues se asume que existe una relación directa entre el número de años de estudio y el ingreso, aparte de reconocer que la educación es un factor que contribuye a la movilidad social, laboral y política, entre otras, de las personas. Tanto a nivel internacional como nacional se han publicado numerosos escritos sobre el tema. Sin embargo, a nivel regional la literatura es escasa, razón por la cual, el presente trabajo tiene como objetivo, por una parte, contrastar el cumplimiento de esta hipótesis para el municipio de Tumaco (Nariño) y, por otra, establecer si la educación brinda mayores oportunidades de empleo para los habitantes de esta localidad. Para ello, con datos de 220 individuos y de 348 hogares, tomados en el año de 2012 y, aplicando el modelo de Mincer, se pudo establecer que un año adicional de educación aumenta aproximadamente en 6,74% el ingreso de los tumaqueños. Igualmente, que más años de educación no incrementan la probabilidad de encontrar empleo en el municipio de Tumaco. JEL Clasificación: I20, J30, J60. |
| Resumen en inglés | The returns to education, in terms of income, is a topic that has been extensively studied by the academy since, it is assumed that there is a direct relationship between the number of years of study and the income, other than to acknowledge that education is a factor that contributes to social mobility, labor and politics, among others, of the people. Both the international and national level have been published numerous writings on the subject, however, at the regional level, the literature is scarce, which is the reason why the present work aims, on the one hand, contrasting the compliance of this hypothesis for the municipality of Tumaco (Nariño) and, on the other hand, establish whether education provides greater employment opportunities for the inhabitants of this town. To do this, with data from 220 individuals and 348 homes, taken in the year 2012 and, by applying the model of Mincer, it was possible to establish that an additional year of education increases at approximately 6.74 % the income of the Tumaco´s people. Also, that more years of education do not increase the probability of finding employment in the municipality of Tumaco. JEL Classification: I20, J30, J60. |
