| Resumen en inglés | The purpose of this paper is to make known the identity of the first notary publics (“escribanos”), who came from Peru during the discovery and conquest of Chile by Spain. It highlights the most important activities they undertook, matters on which there is only scattered information and very little has been written about. It includes biographical data on some of the one hundred and twenty members of a group of “escribanos” who arrived in Chile on the second half of the 16th century, that the author has been able to identify |
