Resumen en español This paper analyzes how migrants perceive that international migrationand some assets (physical and productive assets, labor knowledge)support them to get out of poverty. The methodology consisted ofin-depth interviews with returned migrants living in the State ofMexico. The analysis is qualitative and based on their testimonies but isreinforced by group statistics. The results show that migrants accumulatedassets and capacities, even nine out of ten perceive that in return, they live better. However, only one out of five is confident of achievinga stable long-term living environment. The conclusions point out that,at least among the migrants interviewed, migration plays an essentialrole in improving living conditions on their return. It also contributesto the building of long-term stable livelihoods, although this last effectis much smaller.
