Resumen en inglés | Characterization of the chemical composition and the wear properties of novel ceramics obtained from mining tailings (solid waste of metal and sand) of the mining area of Pachuca Hidalgo, Mexico, are presented in this work. The novel ceramics developed were Tacla with the mixture of tailings and clay, Taka from tailings and kaolin, and Vitacla from a vitrified material of tailings and clay. The methodology for manufacturing these ceramics consisted of the elimination of cyanide and heavy metals from the tailings by using coupled thermostatic columns and hypochloride of sodium. The solid products obtained were mixed with different conglomerates and water. The raw material was agglutinated with clay and kaolin by the sinterization and vitrifying processes. The results of the wear study showed that vitreous material, vitacla, was more resistant to abrasion and erosion than tacla and taka. As consequence, the vitrified ceramic presented less damage during the test |
