| Resumen en inglés | This paper exposes the efforts of various thinkers who contributed to the studies on quantifiers. Since Aristotle, who worked with the u niversal and existential quantifiers; Frege and Pierce who developed theories for dealing with quantifiers; theories about generalized quantifiers, specifically Mostowski’s theory (1957) and Barwise and Cooper’s theory (1981); discussions regarding the approaches of quantifiers and definitions come from dictionaries. It is argued that there is no absolute definition cove ring all quantifiers, neither formally nor in natural language |
| Resumen en portugués | Este trabalho expõe os esforços de diversos pensad ores que contribuíram com estu- dos sobre quantificadores. Desde Aristóteles, que j á trabalhava com os quantificadores uni- versal e existencial; Frege e Pierce que desenvolve ram teorias para tratar dos quantificadores; teorias sobre quantificadores generalizados, mais e specificamente as teorias de Mostowski (1957) e Barwise e Cooper (1981); discussões em rel ação às abordagens dos quantificadores e definições vindas de dicionários.
