Resumen en inglés In the Christianity of origins, ancient Church, in important circumstances, often in became necessary to operate the capacity of discernment, according to the signs of the times. Renaud analyses especially three different moments: Acts 15 (obligation of circumcision for Christians coming from Gentiles). Acts 6 (little drama of injustice suffered by non Hebrew women). Acts 17 + 1 Cor 1 (Christian apology must confront agreements and disagreements facing Greek philosophy). This discernment made in these circumstances was substantially positive for the future life of the Church. But in the second century two serious problems appeared. The aggressive growth of gnosis and the lack of a canon of rules, meant as norms for the Christians, showed the weakness of the institutional dimension of the young Church: a very important moment of discernment. Later on, and under the unique influence of St Ireneus, the episcopal body takes up the authority in the Church, meanwhile the priesthood – until then not existent – enter easily in the Catholic Church. Was this discernment adequate in order to make such a decision, a decision which transformed the Church? This sentence remains open. Conclusion: it is necessary to exercise this virtue of discernment, especially in view of the Church of tomorrow
