| Resumen en inglés | Our objective was to disclose some aspects regarding Physics learning in the state of Rio de Janeiro, based on the performance of the students participating in the 2009 Brazil’s Physics Olympiad (OBF). Quantitative analysis of scores by students from different private and public schools in 42 cities of the state of Rio de Janeiro over the three phases of OBF was made. We compared the performance of public and private schools from capital with that of the inner cities over the phases of OBF. We concluded that public and private schools in the inner cities are much more interested in participating in OBF than the schools in the capital. By comparing the performance between public schools, the schools in the inner cities starts in advantage but those from the capital take the stage while the competition advances. As far as learning regards, few students know how to handle experimental activities and many of them have difficulty in solving discursive questions. Some teachers are still not familiar to the Information and Communication Technology (ICT). Continuous updating courses for teachers are extremely required, especially for those from schools in the inner cities of the state |
