Resumen en inglés | Voltile organic compounds (VOC) take part as contaminants in air emissions from a large variety of processes. The study of the methods intended to eliminate VOCs from the emissions is a ubject of a paramount importance from a ecological point of view. The aim of the present contribution is to analyze different alternatives for the catalytic combustion of VOCs by taking a specific case study. Elimination of ethyl-acetate and ethanol in air emissions from a printing plant currently in operation has been undertaken. The basic elimination process that has been selected consists of and adiabatic fixed bed catalytic reactor,a recuperative heat exchanger and a mixer-burner system. The impact of the design and operating variables on the performance of such process has been evaluated by means of mathematical simulation, to that end, each proces unit has been suitably modeled. It has been checked that the presence of the mixer-burner, fed with and additional imput of fuel, provides a flexible way to control the performance or the whole process.By regulating the flow fuel rate is possible to mantain the exit concentration of VOCs within specification in spite of modifications from design assumptions, such as variations in the effluent flow rate and catalyst dectivation. As the process design level, the amount of fuel employed shows a strong impact on the necesary heat exchange surface |
