Resumen en inglés | The specimens of the marine sponges were collected in Mochima Bay, Sucre state (Venezuela). A continuous extraction with ethyl acetate was carried out on each of the species Aplysina fulva and Aplysina lacunosa for its analysis. Chemical and biological tests were performed to each of them, such as: lethality with Artemia salina, antibacterial and antifungal activity (antibiogram). The phytochemical analysis revealed the presence of certain common secondary metabolites for both sponges (alkaloids, tannins, methyl ethyl ketones and coumarins); unsaturated sterols and pentacyclic triterpenes for A. fulva, and polyphenols, saponins and cardiotonic glycosides for A. lacunosa. A. fulva extract showed moderate bactericidal activity against Staphylococcus aureus and mild antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli strain; while the extract of A. lacunosa exhibited a mild bactericidal activity against strains of S. aureus, Enterococcus faecalis, Micrococcus luteus and Bacillus subtilis. Both sponges showed significant lethal activity (<1000 µg/ml) against A. salina nauplii at 24 hours of exposure (279.85 and 268.25 µg/ml for A. fulva and A. lacunosa respectively). From the chromatographic fractionation of both species, different subfractions were obtained that showed good activity in the bioassays performed. Several sub-fractions showed various compounds, being able to identify some main constituents of these sponges, such as the methyl esters of 25-methylheptacosanoic, 9- methyltetradecanoic, 11-methyloctadecanoic, 10-methyl dodecanoic, hexadecanoic acids; the acids: 9-octadecanoic, n-hexadecenoic, noctadecanoic; dibutyl phthalate and hentricontan-16-one by GC/MS. In addition, undecanol was isolated and characterized by 1H and 13C NMR. From the results obtained, it can be inferred that both sea sponges are a promising source of bioactive secondary metabolites |
