| Resumen en inglés | This study is aimed at Alfred Russel Wallace’s interactions with the environment and living ways of traditional Amazonian societies. On the one hand, the examination of these relations recovers the daily routine of journeys for naturalistic collection and, on the other hand, opposes the experiences of this independent collector in natural history to those of other foreign travelers. It is noteworthy that, though conscious of belonging to an irradiation “center” of “civilization” and “progress”, Wallace did not dare cross the country’s inland without counting on the already established social structures. His traveling-collector condition allowed him to interact with the environment and the dynamics of that society. Therefore, this study proposal aims to understand the interactions of this man of “science” with the regional reality and how crucial they were for the success of his naturalistic work |
| Resumen en portugués | Este trabalho aborda as interações do viajante naturalista Alfred Russel Wallace com o meio ambiente e com os modos de vida das sociedades tradicionais amazônicas. Por meio do exame dessa relação busca-se recuperar o cotidiano das viagens de coleta desse naturalista independente. Neste ponto, deve-se observar que Wallace, embora estivesse consciente de pertencer a um “centro” de irradiação de “civilização” e “progresso”, não ousou atravessar as regiões interiores do país sem contar com as estruturas sociais já estabelecidas. A condição de viajante coletor lhe permitiu que interagisse com o meio ambiente e as dinâmicas daquela sociedade. Portanto, esta proposta de trabalho com viajantes busca observar as interações desse homem da “ciência” com a realidade da região e, ainda, de que modo estas foram cruciais para o sucesso de seu trabalho de naturalista |
