| Resumen en inglés | This paper offers a historical view on Holy Week and Easter in the city of Tunja (Colombia), a sign of popular religiosity that has stayed in the urban space from the 16th to the 21st century. Archives documents and little-studied chronicles are used to show the continuities and discontinuities in the representation of Christ´s Passion, a Hispanic tradition appeared in the city under the guide of the Council of Trento at the end of the 16th century and carried out by the brotherhoods formed with this purpose. The representations of Holy Week and Easter were modified in the 19th century after the confiscation of church assets and in the 20th century the Liturgical Reform of the Catholic Church promoted by the pope Pius XII which gives its current characteristics. In the 21st century, the manifestations of Holy Week and Easter in Tunja are recognized as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Colombia. |
| Resumen en español | Este artículo ofrece una mirada histórica sobre la Semana Santa en la ciudad de Tunja (Colombia), manifestación de la religiosidad popular que ha permanecido por siglos (XVI-XXI) en el espacio urbano. A través de fuentes de archivo y crónicas poco estudiadas, este articulo tiene por objetivo evidenciar las continuidades y discontinuidades que ha tenido la representación de la Pasión de Cristo, tradición hispánica aparecida en la ciudad bajo las directrices del Concilio de Trento a finales del siglo XVI y puesta en escena por las cofradías tunjanas formadas para tal fin. Las representaciones de Semana Santa se modificaron en el siglo XIX, tras la desamortización de bienes de la Iglesia y en el siglo XX, se configuró su forma de representación actual luego de la Reforma Litúrgica de la Iglesia Católica promovida por el papa Pio XII. En el siglo XXI se reconoció a la Semana Santa en Tunja como Patrimonio Inmaterial de la Nación colombiana. |
