| Resumen en inglés | When the Independence Act (1811) was signed in the Province of Venezuela, in Guayana a social base emerged that was opposed to the emancipatory interests of Caracas. However, these disagreements would have a final chapter when the forces led by Manuel Piar in the Battle of San Félix (1817), managed to take definitive control of the region. This event,which circumscribes the campaign carried out in southern Venezuela between 1816 and 1817, gave rise to the making of a national discourse that is still valid today among the inhabitants of Ciudad Guayana (Bolívar State). In this way, a series of oral and written accounts are included about the events of national independence and stories that seem to goagainst what is stated by the official historiography. Two hundred years later, the heroic imaginary has permeated regional history and therefore the identity of the Guyanesepeople, so its study is considered essential when it comes to understanding the place that the Guayana region occupies in the history of Venezuela. |
| Resumen en español | Cuando en la provincia de Venezuela se firmaba el acta de la Independencia (1811), en Guayana despuntaba una base social que se oponía a los intereses emancipadores de Caracas. Sin embargo, estas desavenencias tendrían un capítulo final cuando las fuerzas dirigidas por Manuel Piar en la batalla de San Félix (1817) logran tomar el control definitivo de la región. Este acontecimiento, que circunscribe la campaña llevada a cabo al sur de Venezuela entre 1816 y 1817, dio pie a la confección de un discurso patrio que aun hoy tiene vigencia entre los habitantes de Ciudad Guayana (estado Bolívar). De esta forma, se incluyen una serie de relatos orales y escritos entorno a los hechos de la independencia nacional e historias que parecen ir a contravía de lo planteado por la historiografía oficial. Doscientos años después, el imaginario heroico ha impregnado la historia regional y, por ende, la identidad del pueblo guayanés, por lo que su estudio se considera fundamental a la hora de comprender el lugar que ocupa la región guayana en la historia de Venezuela. |
