| Resumen en español | Este trabajo se divide en seis partes. La primera de ellas busca caracterizar y describir el rol de las mujeres en las sociedades científicas occidentales. En la segunda parte se explica la construcción social del género según Sandra Harding. En la tercera se aborda el sesgo de género que existe en el relato histórico sobre los avances de la ciencia y su tendencia a sobrevalorar el rol que los hombres han jugado en este. En la cuarta sección se verán los problemas más recurrentes y habituales que acarrean ser mujer y desempeñarse en una actividad que suele asociarse a lo masculino. Se analizan las estructuras de poder, reconocimiento y productividad con que funcionan las comunidades científicas. En la quinta parte se presentan datos obtenidos en distintas investigaciones hechas en Chile. Por lo general, se trata de información cuantitativa. La sexta y última parte contiene la conclusión |
| Resumen en inglés | This paper is divided in six parts. The first one seeks to characterize and describe the role of women in Western societies. In the second part we explain the social construction of gender according to Sandra Harding. The third part deals with the gender bias that exists in the historical account about the advance of science and its tendency to overvalue the role that men have played in it. The fourth section focuses on the most recurrent and usual problems that brings being a woman and performing in an activity that is usually associated with men. This paper analyzes the structures of power, recognition and production that operate in scientific communities. In the fifth part we present data obtained from different quantitative researches held in Chile. The sixth and last part is the conclusion |
