| Resumen en español | El Cirio es una celebración realizada desde hace 225 años en homenaje a Nuestra Señora de Nazaré; concentra cerca de dos millones de fieles en las calles de Belém do Pará, Brasil, duplicando el número de residentes durante el periodo de su realización. Este complejo ritual, constituido por una serie de procesiones que conservan la estructura original, revive de cierta forma el mito de origen de esta fiesta. Para explicar este hecho fue necesario considerar los acontecimientos históricos y al mismo tiempo el imaginario popular; por tanto, el objetivo de este trabajo es traer a la discusión la reflexión de historiadores y antropólogos que han profundizado en la temática del Cirio, pero sobre todo, acercarnos al punto de vista de un grupo de hombres que conforman la “Guardia de Nuestra Señora de Nazaré”, por ser ellos los que vivencian año tras año el desarrollo de la celebración |
| Resumen en inglés | The Candle is a celebration that has been carried out for 225 years, in tribute to Our Lady of Nazaré. It congretates almost two million faithful on the streets of Belém do Pará (Brazil), thus doubling the number of residents during the festive period. This complex ritual, made up of a series of processions that preserve the original structure, revives the myth of the origin of this festival in a specific way. To explain this, it was necessary to consider historical events in conjunction with the popular imagination; therefore, the objective of this work is to contribute to the discussion and the reflection of historians and anthropologists who have delved into the theme of The Candle, but above all, to incorpórate the point of view of a group of men who make up the “Guard of Our Lady de Nazaré,” since they are the ones who experience the organization of the celebration on a yearly basis |
