Resumen en inglés | The purpose of this project is to investigate online headlines from Brazilian newspapers in which the occurrence of reported discourse is observed, based on the theoretical and methodological apparatus of Cognitive Linguistics. The mail goal is to map the speech acts performed in these headlines and strategies of viewpoint compression that are reflected in linguistic structure. The act of reporting is approached from the articulation of two theoretical perspectives, Speech Acts Theory (AUSTIN, 1962; SEARLE, 1969) and Conceptual Blending Theory (FAUCONNIER & TURNER, 2002). The contribution of the research project is to promote new discussions regarding the study of reported speech and speech acts and their application to real contexts of use. It is argued that headlines involving reported speech can constitute the material anchor of a process of conceptual blending, involving the assertive speech act performed by the journalist, on the one hand, and the speech act performed by the reported speaker, on the other. The results indicate that the different syntactic structures are, in fact, at the service of the degree of commitment that the journalist wants to maintain with the reported speech |
