| Resumen en español | Aquí se aborda la partici-pación de las mujeres españolas en la Conquista de México. Se revisan fuentes de la época y documentos posteriores en los que aparecen sus nombres y las mercedes que les fueron otorgadas. Al ser poco común, durante el siglo xvi, que las mujeres ostentaran bienes y cargos por sí mismas, se revisa la condición jurídica de la mujer en esa época para comprender su situación. La finalidad es incluirlas dentro de las interpretaciones a 500 años de este importante suceso histórico y conocer mejor las implicaciones que tuvieron en la Conquista y la conformación de Nueva España |
| Resumen en inglés | This article reviews the par-ticipation of Spanish women in the Conquest of Mexico. Sources of the time and later documents are reviewed in which their names and the grants that were granted to them appear. As it was rare, during the sixteenth century, for women to hold assets and positions by themselves, the legal status of women at that time is reviewed to understand their situation. The purpose is to inclu-de them within the 500-year interpreta-tions of this important historical event and to better understand the implica-tions they had on the Conquest and the formation of New Spain |
