Resumen en inglés | If the book still admired, De la démocratie en Amérique by Tocqueville is an analysis, then the proposed study appears as an analysis of an analysis. As far as the studied chapter is concerned, Tocqueville’s work being a refl ection on the mutual incompatibility between quality and quantity, the ideas of number, density, quotient and result become relevant.For the aristocratic regime, the preferential operations the subjects are engaged in are mainly sorting operations, for the democratic regime they are operations of blending. The tension between the aristocratic regime aiming above all at the permanency of quality and, according to Tocqueville, the democratic regime aiming at the increase of a quantity, which is bound impoverish it, this tension is examined here from four points of view: tempo, tonicity, temporality and space.
