| Resumen en español | Entre los siglos XVII y XVIII las Costas de la Provincia de Venezuela se vieron fuertemente azotadas por piratas, corsarios, bucaneros y filibusteros, quienes asolaron y saquearon los poblados circundantes al Mar Caribe. Este hecho generó una fuerte paralización de la economía en la Provincia. En virtud de lo cual, en 1718 llega el Juez de Comisos Pedro José de Olavarriaga. Quien por Real Orden tuvo la misión de levantar La Instrucción General y Particular del Estado Presente de la Provincia de Venezuela entre 1720 y 1721, con el propósito de determinar la verdadera situación en la cual se encontraba la misma. En el mencionado informe se presentó, entre otras, la necesidad de fortificar las Costas de la Provincia. Hizo hincapié en las bondades geomorfológicas de Puerto Cabello, lo cual determinó la importancia del levantamiento de una plaza fortificada en resguardo de ésta importante llave de acceso al territorio. Por consiguiente, se emitió la orden para la construcción de un Fuerte que se llamaría San Felipe en Puerto Cabello, con el propósito de contener la piratería, servir de factoría fortificada de la Real Compañía Guipuzcoana y finalmente, establecer el servicio activo de defensa en las costas de la Provincia. Por lo antes expuesto, la presente investigación pretende analizar la importancia de la edificación del Castillo de San Felipe de Puerto Cabello como llave de defensa de las costas de la Provincia de Venezuela. Fundamentándose en el estudio de fuentes del Archivo de la Academia Nacional de Historia y del Archivo General de Indias. Finalmente el aporte de la presente investigación es contribuir al conocimiento y pertenencia de las Costas de la Provincia de Venezuela durante el Siglo XVIII |
| Resumen en inglés | Between centuries XVII and XVIII the Coasts of the Province of Venezuela were seen strongly whipped by pirates, privateers, buccaneers and fi libusteros, that knocked down and sacked the surrounding towns to the Caribbean Sea. This fact generated a strong paralyzation of the economy in the Province. By virtue of which, in 1718 Judge from Pedro Seizures Jose de Olavarriaga arrives. Who by Real Order had the mission to raise the General training and Particular of the Present State of the Province of Venezuela between 1720 and 1721, in order to determine the true situation in which was the same. In the mentioned report one appeared, among others, the necessity to fortify the Coasts of the Province. He insisted on geomorphological kindness of Port Hair, which determined the importance of the rise of a place fortified in defense of this one important key from access to the territory. Therefore, the order for the construction of a Fort was emitted that would be called San Felipe in Port Hair, in order to contain the piracy, to serve finally as fortified factory of the Guipuzcoan Company and, to establish the active service of defense in the coasts of the Province. By before exposed, the present investigation tries to analyze the importance of the construction of the Castle of San Felipe of Port Hair like key of defense of the coasts of the Province of Venezuela. Being based on the study of sources of the File of the National Academy of History and the General archives of Indians. Finally the contribution of the present investigation is to contribute to the knowledge and property of the Coasts of the Province of Venezuela during Century XVIII |
