| Resumen en inglés | This paper adds to the literature on fact-checking, specifically to the spanish literature. By employing the analytic-synthetic method, relevant issues on the methodology and epistemology of factchecking were explored, recovering the discussions in English, and incorporating ideas from Hispanic authors. After the review, the following conclusions were found. First, the discussion on epistemology focuses on three aspects, the empirical nature of the methodology, the possible biases of the fact-checkers and the effectiveness of factchecking. Secondly, it appears that adherence to the Code of Principles of the International Fact-Checking Network could help to address the criticisms made against the methodology, however, studies are needed on this issue. Thirdly, it was shown that fact-checking has a large methodological variability, especially in the labeling systems that are used to evaluate verified claims. Finally, studies on the effectiveness of factchecking present mixed results. |
| Resumen en español | Este estudio contribuye a la literatura sobre el factchecking, específicamente abona a la literatura en español. Empleando el método analítico-sintético, se exploraron cuestiones relevantes sobre la metodología y epistemología del factchecking, recuperando las discusiones en inglés e incorporando ideas de autores hispanoparlantes. Tras la revisión, se identificaron las siguientes conclusiones. En primer lugar, la discusión sobre la epistemología se centra en tres aspectos, el carácter empírico de la metodología, los posibles sesgos de los verificadores y la efectividad del factchecking. En segundo lugar, parece ser que el adherirse al Código de Principios de la International Fact-Checking Network podría ayudar a solventar las críticas realizadas a la metodología, sin embargo, se requieren estudios en este respecto. En tercer lugar, se mostró que el factchecking tiene una gran variabilidad metodológica, especialmente en los sistemas de etiquetas que son empleados para evaluar las declaraciones verificadas. Finalmente, se identificó que los estudios sobre la efectividad del factchecking presentan resultados mixtos. |
