| Resumen en español | En el candomblé, una religión afro-brasileña, la ceremonia de la entrada de un grupo de neófitos a un barco místico es una de las ceremonias iniciáticas más descritas por la etnografía. Este conjunto ritual forma parte del “nacimiento” progresivo de los novicios y relata una travesía a través del océano, al interior de un barco que, al mismo tiempo, simboliza un útero. Algunos investigadores han observado la semejanza entre los elementos relevantes de esta ceremonia y el proceso de embarque de los esclavos en los puertos africanos y su posterior travesía a través del Atlántico, aunque sin que estas semejanzas se hayan sistematizado. | Resumen en inglés | In candomblé, an African Brazilian religion, the entry ceremony of a group of neophytes to a mystic vessel is one of the most studied initiatory ceremonies by ethnology. This ritual ensemble is a part of the progressive “birth” of the novices and tells about a sailing across the ocean in a ship that, at the same time, symbolizes a womb. Some researchers have noticed the similarity between the key elements in this ceremony and the boarding process of the slaves in the African ports and its subsequent crossing of the Atlantic. The answers to this query, still hypothetical, have been dissimilar. That is why this article seeks to compare the historical and religious narrations about the sailing of a ship loaded with slaves and its trip across the ocean |
