Resumen en español amplia de datos locales que pueden enriquecer el quehacer endocrinológico en nuestro país. Es tarea de todos los miembros de la SMNE estimular a los investigadores a concretar sus resultados en una publicación
Resumen en inglés One of the main objectives of the Sociedad Mexicana de Nutrición y Endocrinología, A.C. (SMNE) is to spread scientific information. It has been reported that less than half of the scientific work presented in International congresses is published. The objective of this review is to describe the quantity and characteristics of the scientific words presented in the Annual Congress of the SMNE since 2000 to 2009 and evaluate the rate of publication. Material and methods: The abstracts of the scientific reports accepted and presented in the annual meetings of the SMNE since 2000 to 2009 were compiled. The year of presentation in Congress, title, topic, type of study, year of publication and journal were registered. The search of publishing of each work was done via internet with the Pubmed, Medscape, Google, and Biomedexperts systems. Results: A total of 1045 summaries were included. Case/controls studies were the most frequent type of study (22%). The main areas of endocrinology involved are diabetes, reproduction and obesity. Only 1.7% of the works correspond to nutrition. A total of 186 (17.8%) works were published, with an elapsed time from congress to publication of 2.1 ± 1.9 years. From these 186 papers, 56.5% (105) were published in international journals, 69 (37.1%) in national journals and 12 in scientific web pages. Discussion: Only 18% of the reports presented in the SMNE meetings are published, which implies that 4/5 remain without diffusion. Those published are sent primarily to international journals. Conclusion: Less than 1/5 of the works presented in the Annual SMNE meetings have been published. It is important to create and spread local data to enrich the knowledge in our country. SMNE members should contribute to increase the publication rate of the studies presented in the SMNE annual meetings
