Resumen en inglés | In just a decade, Spain has become one of the countries that have attracted the highest inflows of immigrants, in particular from Latin America. The aim of this article is to study the way Latin Americans form couples in Spain, using information based on three statistical sources: the 2001 Population and Housing Census, the marriage registry and the registration of births and other vital statistics. Specifically, levels of endogamy among the 11 largest national groups are analysed by sex. The results point to significant differences between the three sources; regardless of the source, however, levels of endogamy vary significantly from one group to another and, in some cases, between men and women within the same group. These variations are partly due to structural factors relating to the community, such as size, masculinity ratio and how long it has existed |
