| Resumen en inglés | The genus Pterocaulon comprises a group of meadowy herb or subshrub plant species, with a very homogeneous floral and vegetative organization. The genus shows a bicentric distribution divided between America and a part of the Australian and the southeastern Asian regions. In Rio Grande do Sul State it is represented by nine species as follows: Pterocaulon alopecuroides (Lam.) DC., P. angustifolium DC., P.balansae Chodat, P. cordobense Kuntze, P. lorentzii Malme, P. polypterum (DC.) Cabrera, P. polystachyum DC., P. rugosum (Vahl.) Malme and P. virgatum (L.) DC. The present study provides an analitical key, species descriptions, phenological and geographical data, as well as illustrations of the species occuring in the Rio Grande do Sul State |
| Resumen en portugués | Pterocaulon inclui um grupo de espécies campestres, herbáceas ou subarbustivas com organização floral e vegetativa bastante homogênea. O gênero possui uma distribuição bicêntrica, dividida entre a América e parte da região australiana e sudeste da Ásia. No Rio Grande do Sul está represen- tado por nove espécies: Pterocaulon alopecuroides (Lam.) DC., P. angustifolium DC., P. balansae Chodat, P. cordobense Kuntze, P. lorentzii Malme, P. polypterum (DC.) Cabrera, P. polystachyum DC., P. rugosum (Vahl.) Malme e P. virgatum (L.) DC. O trabalho fornece uma chave analítica, descrições, dados sobre fenologia, distribuição geográfica e hábitat, bem como ilustrações das espécies ocorrentes no Estado do Rio Grande do Sul |
