| Resumen en inglés | This article examines the origins of the small property in the municipality of Amatlán and its evolution in the context of the oil boom that took place in Mexico during the years 1910 to 1921. We argue that the fragmentation of the condueñazgo of Amatlán carried out at the end of the 19th century did not mean the triumph of the "perfect" private property that the liberal elite promoted, but this did not stop the land market or oil exploitation in subsequent years. On the other hand, the small property made possible the incursion of national and foreign tenants in the municipality, the intense speculative activity and the accelerated exploitation of the oilfields. In addition, the irregularity of the titles played an important role in the conflicts that arose during and after the period of oil effervescence, once the Mexican Revolution gave a turn to the property rights policy in the country. |
| Resumen en español | Este artículo examina la génesis de la pequeña propiedad en el municipio de Amatlán y su devenir en el contexto del auge petrolero que tuvo lugar en México durante los años de 1910 a 1921. Se propone es que el fraccionamiento del condueñazgo de Amatlán realizado a fines del Siglo XIX no significó el triunfo de la propiedad privada "perfecta" que la élite liberal promovía y, sin embargo, ello no frenó el mercado de tierras ni la explotación petrolera en los años subsiguientes. En cambio, la pequeña propiedad posibilitó la incursión de numerosos arrendatarios nacionales y extranjeros en el municipio, la intensa actividad especulativa y la explotación acelerada de los yacimientos del subsuelo. Además, la irregularidad de los títulos jugó un papel importante en los conflictos que se suscitaron durante y después del periodo de efervescencia petrolera, una vez que la Revolución Mexicana dio un giro a la política de derechos de propiedad en el país. |
