| Resumen en inglés | This research addresses the phenomenon of sex education and the incorporation of the gender perspective from the study of the beliefs of teachers of 4th, 5th, and 6th grades of elementary school. The methodology is qualitative with a dialectical hermeneutic approach and belongs to the constructivist paradigm. Semi-structured interviews were conducted to learn about the teachers vision and to obtain descriptions of their beliefs and experiences in the approach to sex education and gender perspective. They were applied in five elementary schools in the municipality of Veracruz, Mexico: two federal schools, two state schools, and one private school, during the period from October to December 2019. Eighteen women and six men participated, with ages between 23 and 65 years. It was found that teachers consider that textbooks should go more deeply into sex education topics; however, by not feeling competent, they prefer to invite a specialist in medicine or psychology to explain the topic to students. Finally, it is necessary not only to train in sex education with a gender perspective, but also to implement the topics in a cross-cutting manner at all levels of basic education. |
| Resumen en español | La presente investigación aborda el fenómeno de la educación sexual y la incorporación de la perspectiva de género a partir del estudio de las creencias del profesorado de 4º, 5º y 6º grados de primaria. La metodología de este estudio es cualitativa con un enfoque hermenéutico dialéctico y se ubica en el paradigma constructivista. Se realizaron entrevistas semiestructuradas para conocer la visión del profesorado y obtener descripciones sobre sus creencias y experiencias en el abordaje de la educación sexual y la perspectiva de género. Las entrevistas se aplicaron en cinco escuelas primarias del municipio de Veracruz, México: dos federales, dos estatales y una particular, durante octubre a diciembre de 2019. Participaron 18 mujeres y seis hombres, con edades entre los 23 y 65 años. Se encontró que el personal docente considera que los libros de texto deberían profundizar más en los temas de educación sexual; sin embargo, al no sentirse competentes, prefieren invitar a un especialista en medicina o psicología para que le explique el tema al alumnado. Finalmente, falta capacitarse en educación sexual con perspectiva de género e implementar los tópicos de forma transversal en todos los niveles de educación básica. |
