Resumen en inglés | The concept of revelation is essential to Christian orthodoxy. The Reformed faith is grounded on the understanding that the Bible is God’s special revelation, being inspired and the supreme rule for faith and practice. After the movement of Renaissance humanism, Scripture ceased to be the only source of authority for theology and other sources started to be embraced by theologians. In the twentieth century, liberals, neo-orthodox, and Pentecostals began to use other criteria, such as reason, experience, and existential philosophy. One of the representatives of the use of existentialist philosophy was the Prussian theologian Paul Tillich. This article seeks to understand the thought of this theologian about divine revelation and its influence on systematic theology. With this purpose, the article starts with an analysis of existential philosophy. Then, it describes Tillich’s theological thought, trying to understand its role, source, concept of the Bible, and, finally, its concept of revelation. The article concludes its analysis by showing the disastrous consequences of the shift in the source of authority for Christian and Reformed theology |
